Major Betty Israel, National Social Services Secretary



Major Betty Ann Israel is a Salvation Army USA Eastern Territorial officer, now serving at National Headquarters, Alexandria VA, as National Social Services Secretary. In that capacity, she coordinates communication and program development amongst the four USA Territorial Social Services Directors in California, Illinois, New York and Georgia. Her areas of consultation include local Salvation Army assistance and community programs, anti-sexual trafficking programs, volunteer opportunities, prison ministries and services to the aging. She is the National Liaison for The Salvation Army to a number of Washington based advocacy organizations concerned with poverty issues, including homelessness, hunger and health care. She has previously served as a Corps Officer (with her late husband, James), in adolescent pregnancy services, statewide social service programs and Divisional administration. Her educational background includes a BA in Sociology from The University of Massachusetts, Commissioning and Ordination from The Eastern USA Salvation Army School for Officer Training and her MA in Counseling from John Carroll University. She has one adult son who is a software engineer in Boston MA.
