EIE Says New Roblox Plans to Protect Children are Positive, But Questions Timing

WASHINGTON, DC (April 16, 2026) – Enough Is Enough® (EIE) commends Roblox for its plans to institute more stringent safety controls to protect children from predators on the platform, but criticizes the company for taking so long to do so. Roblox just settled a lawsuit filed by the state of Nevada for $12 million. Roblox is currently facing over 100 lawsuits.

“Roblox has had a predator problem, and now, only when faced with lawsuits does it finally put plans in place to protect children. Roblox should have done this from day one, not ten years after it was founded. While Roblox has taken steps in the right direction, time will tell and their new features and controls will need to be tested once they go live in June,” said Donna Rice Hughes, President and CEO, Enough Is Enough®.

Roblox announced two new age-based accounts, Roblox Kids for ages 5-8 and Roblox Select for ages 9-15, stating that “this update will bring age check, account-level defaults, content ratings, ongoing moderation, and expanded parental controls together into a unified framework for younger users.”

“Once again, it is clear that nothing motivates tech platforms to protect children online like lawsuits or legislation. Tech platforms like Roblox must be compelled to do right by children. Congress must take note and pass online child safety solutions like the strong Senate version of the Kids Online Safety Act,” Hughes said.

A Guardian journalist reported that she spent time on Roblox logged in as a child and her avatar was “cyberbullied, aggressively killed, and sexually assaulted” while parental controls were in place. Hindenburg Research reported that its “in-game research revealed an X-rated pedophile hellscape, exposing children to grooming, pornography, violent content and extremely abusive speech.”
