ADVOACTING FOR STRONG PUBLIC POLICY

EIE continues its current child online advocacy efforts focusing on:

Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA): Requires online platforms to protect minors from harmful content and provide stronger parental controls. (Bill Status: Introduced 5/14/25, referred to Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation)

STOP CSAM Act: Strengthens laws and tools to prevent, report, and prosecute child sexual abuse material online. (Bill Status: June 12, 2025, the Senate Judiciary Committee unanimously advanced the bill out of committee by a 22-0 vote.)

GUARD Act: Would ban AI companions for minors, mandate AI chatbots disclose its non-human status, and create new crimes for companies who make AI for minors that solicits or produces sexual content. (Bill Status: Introduced October 28, 2025.)

EIE is working with coalition partners to educate the public about these critical pieces of child online safety legislation.

AI chatbots pose a serious threat to our kids. More than seventy percent of American children are now using these AI products. Chatbots develop relationships with kids using fake empathy and are encouraging suicide. We in Congress have a moral duty to enact bright-line rules to prevent further harm from this new technology."

Senator Josh Hawley, (R-MO) - October 28, 2025

In their race to the bottom, AI companies are pushing treacherous chatbots at kids and looking away when their products cause sexual abuse or coerce them into self-harm or suicide. Our legislation imposes strict safeguards against exploitative or manipulative AI, backed by tough enforcement with criminal and civil penalties. Big Tech has betrayed any claim that we should trust companies to do the right thing on their own when they consistently put profit first ahead of child safety."

Senator Richard Blumenthal, (D-CT) October 28, 2025

Coalition Advocacy

EIE joined forces with other organizations to support a range of issues aimed at protecting children and families. This includes advocating for stronger online safety measures through child online protection bills, opposing tax breaks for pornographic and exploitative industries, and urging California’s governor to sign legislation safeguarding children from unsafe AI chatbot companions

White House Advocacy

EIE continued advancing the key recommendations outlined in The Children’s Internet Safety Presidential Pledge through high-level meetings with senior officials from President Trump’s Domestic Policy Council and members of the First Lady’s staff at the White House. Discussions focused on the Pledge, potential Executive Orders, and additional measures the Administration could consider to make child online safety a top national priority.

VIRGINIA AND SOUTH CAROLINA

STATEWIDE INITIATIVES

EIE's Protecting Kids Online Town Hall" was held in September in partnership with the Office of the Virginia Attorney General. Donna moderated the event that included important conversations and prevention information to help equip parents to keep children safe in the digital age, addressing how predators, traffickers, and pornographers exploit the internet to target children—and most importantly, how parents and caregivers can protect kids from digital dangers. A special thank you to the distinguished panel and Attorney General Jason Miyares for his continued leadership on prioritizing the prevention of child online exploitation!

EIE was honored to attend the 2025 human trafficking summit hosted by the Virginia Office of the Attorney General. Our team was thrilled to interact with and learn from so many important leaders, advocates and survivors who are fiercely fighting this terrible crime. We were inspired to hear from Virginia elected officials who have made this issue a top priority, including Attorney General Jason Miyares and Governor and First Lady Youngkin. Each shared invaluable insights on current efforts and the critical actions still needed to fully eradicate human trafficking.

As part of EIE's statewide internet safety initiative in Virginia, we look forward to continued collaboration with these tireless champions.

2025 Human Trafficking in the Carolinas Conference
